  3. DESCRIPTION:

  5. Partydot is a user-created art generator similar to a
  6. kaleidoscope. There are several ways to divide up the
  7. artistry between the computer and the user. You can start a
  8. design by pressing <Enter> and that is the simplest level.
  9. You can specify what sort of shapes the computer should use
  10. in creating the art. That is the second level. You can
  11. manipulate the numeric variables the computer uses in
  12. drawing the design and that is the most intense level from a
  13. user viewpoint. Another way to enjoy PARTYDOT is to create
  14. custom designs by naming combinations of pre-defined shapes
  15. and letting the computer create a randomized pattern from
  16. your medley. You can even tell the computer to start a new
  17. design at random every two minutes by pressing I for
  18. intervals. It is also possible to load a set of design
  19. parameters from disk.

  21. The idea for the design generator came from an article in A.
  22. K. Dewdney's Computer Recreation column in the September
  23. 1986 issue of SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN magazine.  A program
  24. called HOPALONG was described there.  Partydot uses the
  25. "engine" of HOPALONG and goes beyond the original concept by
  26. allowing smooth dithering between colors, and rapid (or
  27. slow, if desired) changes of those colors in EGA and VGA
  28. modes giving the impression of a brilliantly hued explosion.
  29. Also, in EGA and VGA some shapes seem to spin as the colors
  30. change.

  32. INTENDED USE:

  34. Partydot is intended for use by (1) The host or hostess of a
  35. party who can add the computer display as a light show, by
  36. (2) the curious or scientific-minded person who would like
  37. to explore the fantastic variety of results that can be
  38. obtained by varying the input data, or (3) anyone who feels
  39. a bit artistic and would like to create some instant art.

  41. FEATURES:

  43. Unique features include the ability to create nearly
  44. instantaneous graphics "dazzlers", the ability to save and
  45. load the design parameters, and the inclusion of two
  46. complete user interfaces, one optimized for entertainment
  47. and the other for scientific exploration.

  49. LIMITATIONS:
  50.  
  51. The only known limitation is that in CGA mode the tiled
  52. triangle option can produce "out of memory" errors. Not
  53. always, though, so try these anyway.  There's no problem in
  54. EGA or VGA modes.

  57. REQUIREMENTS:

  59. Partydot requires 512K memory, one floppy disk drive, and a
  60. color system. VGA and EGA are by far the best, but Partydot
  61. does use all of the capabilities of CGA for as good a result
  62. as can be expected. With EGA and VGA the menu displays more
  63. choices than with CGA.

  66. STARTING THE PROGRAM:

  68. To start the program, place the program disk in your floppy
  69. drive, type PARTYDOT and <Enter>.

  71. REGISTRATION:

  73. The registration fee in the USA is $9.95 and this entitles
  74. you to the latest REGISTERED version with the newest design
  75. elements, printed instructions, and background data such as
  76. the formula used in creating the designs. Make check out to
